You are a Genius!

Awhile back I ran across this gem of wisdom from Albert Einstein: “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

This got my wheels spinning! Of course, we would never expect a fish to climb a tree, or even think it was failing in some way because it couldn't. And yet, we, as a general human population, are not so gentle or understanding with ourselves and our own limitations. Rather, we are really good at comparing ourselves to others and thinking that somehow we have to measure up to what everyone else is doing in order to be valuable, worthy, loved, etc. The problem with this though is two-fold:

First, we are generally comparing our weaknesses or limitations to another person's strengths.
Second, we are not all on the planet to do and accomplish the same things, at the same time, or in the same way.

Sadly, a result of comparing and trying to be like everyone else is that the world is missing out on a whole lot of genius! This is where it gets a little tricky. Connotations associated with the word "genius" often imply doing or being something on a grand scale. But have you ever stopped to consider that you being the best person you can be is being something on a grand scale? If not, it's true! There is no one else on the planet who can be you....no one! And that, my friend, makes you a genius. So, in closing, my invitation for this coming month is to both see and treat yourself like the genius you are. And yes, you can still be learning, growing, and changing, but through it all, you are a genius. Celebrating YOU! Dream Body Coach Lorie
